Midco® Aquatic Center Announces Swim Meet Dates for Early 2017

Today City of Sioux Falls and Sioux Falls Swim Team officials announced the dates of the first swim meets to take place at the Midco® Aquatic Center in 2017.

“Let’s be clear that the Midco Aquatic Center is a public facility and our citizens have first dibs in using it. However, swim meets are also an important part of the equation because of the big economic impact they create. We can find the balance and we will all win because of it,” says Mayor Mike Huether.

During nearly all swim meets, public access to the Recreation Pool area of the facility will still be available. Following are the dates of the first four swim meets to take place at the Midco Aquatic Center:

  • January 20–22, 2017, Sioux Falls Swim Team: Lap lanes and open swim area will be available for public use. Diving boards will be unavailable beginning Friday afternoon.
  • April 28–30, 2017, Augustana University: No public use of the 50 Meter Pool available.
  • May 5, 2017, Special Olympics: Lap lanes and open swim area will be available for public use. Diving boards will be unavailable beginning Friday afternoon.
  • May 12–14, 2017, Sioux Falls Swim Team: No public use of the 50 Meter Pool available.

“The Sioux Falls Swim Team is proud of the relationship that we have with the Parks and Recreation Department, and we are grateful for the opportunity to host our meets at the Midco Aquatic Center, truly a first-class facility,” says Jason Ahrendt, President of the Sioux Falls Swim Team.

During the facility’s first month, volumes, usage, and operations were evaluated to ensure the City maximized the public good. At the same time, planning for other important elements such as swimming lessons and swim meets was occurring.

“We have learned a lot over the past month and a half regarding how people utilize the facility and where windows of opportunity exist to host some really great events, too. We will announce our own dates for swimming lessons and other activities very soon,” says Don Kearney, Director of Parks and Recreation.
