Midco® Aquatic Center Will Certainly Host Swim Meets and Swimming Lessons in 2017

The Midco® Aquatic Center, Sioux Falls’ first public indoor aquatic center, will certainly host swim meets and provide swimming lessons in 2017.

The facility has been open less than one month, and volumes, usage, and operations are all being evaluated to ensure we maximize the public good. At the same time, discussions are occurring to plan other important elements such as swimming lessons and swim meets. Those will begin in early 2017.

“This is the first public indoor aquatic center in our city, funded by tax dollars, and we told the public that we would focus on public access. We are fulfilling that promise, and we want to operate the facility long enough to make informed decisions about additional uses,” says Don Kearney, Director of Parks and Recreation. “The Midco Aquatic Center was 60 years in the making and has been open for only 23 days. We will have great swim meets here, so please rest assured.”

It has always been the intent of the City of Sioux Falls and the Sioux Falls Swim Team to host swim meets at the Midco Aquatic Center. The City has a good working relationship with the Sioux Falls Swim Team and other user groups, all working together toward what is best for the community as a whole. Currently, the Sioux Falls Swim Team uses the facility five days a week for their practices, and the City of Sioux Falls is working to schedule swim meets to take place after the first of the year.
